Well we’re a little late on the birthday wishes, but in October Abby Winters celebrated it’s 7th birthday! So we’d thought we’d pay tribute by giving you a potted history of Abby Winters.

It seems like an age ago now, but those of you who have been on the web for a while might remember the early days of internet porn. There were a lot folks out for a ‘quick buck’ and it seemed a lot of adult webmasters thought all you had to do was lure and trap surfers by any old dubious and annoying means, provide a few lame pics, and watch the $$$ roll in. Those formative internet years of the late 90s saw ‘amateur porn’ explode, and of course many adult webmasters tried to cash in on this with horribly ill conceived photo shoots. Many producers of ‘amateur porn’ seemed obsessed with making their models look as much like porn stars as possible.

Abby Winters began by shooting some sets in the ‘natural amateur’ style that she herself wanted to see, with the aim of selling this content to established websites. These websites (some of which have since gone bust) dismissed Abby’s work and told her to rethink her approach. Not to be dissuaded, Abby teamed up with a friend with web design skills, and set about creating an adult website that adhered to her own personal ‘vision’.

So on 14 October 2000 (in the midst of the dot-com crash), AbbyWinters.com was launched. The style and ‘vision’ of the site was set very early on - healthy, natural, ‘girl next door’ amateurs, photographed in their own environment, no makeup, in their own clothes, and with their own personalties to the fore. Together with this photographic style, Abby decided early on to produce a website which was actually easy for the surfer to use, and to treat the sites members with respect. Abby also chose to treat her models well, and steered clear of derogatory presentation of her models.

Although the site has grown rapidly over the years, the basic colors and fonts have remained since the early days. Many additional features have been added in recent years, and the social community aspect of the Abby Winters website is very strong. Abby Winters is now one of the busiest adult websites on the internet, and employs eight full time staff in inner city Melbourne, including Abby herself, and CEO Garion Hall.

“For over seven years” says Hall, “we’ve been pursuing a vision to trigger social change, to subvert the dominant paradigm, and we can see now that it’s worked. There’s a growing demand for passionate, amateur content – with real amateurs. Vivid’s recent entry into this space highlights this trend. We’ve known, and the success of our site has proven, that people want to see a different genre, an alternative to what once was considered ‘mainstream’. Now, the very definition of ‘mainstream’ is being challenged.”

“We pride ourselves on the passion and intensity of our shoots,” continues Hall. “There’s a big difference between ‘real’ and ‘real passion’, after all. Our models are actually amateurs, and while that’s often lied about, it’s not necessarily unique. But passion is rare and can’t be faked; in our shoots, it’s palpable.”

“We have very high standards for what content we release,” says videographer and former site model Susie. “If the girls don’t get into it during a sex scene, it NEVER makes the site. It’s rare that any of our models have gotten naked in front of a camera, much less have sex in front of one!

“This means that when they do the scenes for us, they naturally focus all their attention on their partners, not on the camera or a director. Our scenes are never scripted. Instead, the girls just go for it, and we do our best to capture the action.”
