New Zealander edits new porn mag for women

A new women’s magazine called Filament is challenging long-established beliefs about women, sex and media by producing a magazine for women that’s free of fashion, diets and celebrity gossip.
Filament believes it may be the first women’s magazine to create erotic images using the latest psychological research.

“There is a lot of mythology talked about what does and doesn’t turn women on; you have to go to the source to find out what is true. ‘Male pin-up’-style material that have been marketed at women before were often created based on wrong assumptions, or merely repackaged images from the gay market. If you want to turn women on, you have to be 100% about women.”

Filament magazine’s editor, Suraya Sidhu Singh (a New Zealander living in London), said,

“We asked women what they thought of what women’s magazines were currently offering, and found that many felt women’s magazines were dumbed down to the point of being insulting, and sends a terrible message about what is important to women: shoes, mascara and pleasing your man in bed. The women we spoke to were intelligent, independent and optimistic, so we formed Filament around what they wanted.”

The subjects covered by Filament are eclectic: “It’s like going to a dinner party where everyone is fascinating in wildly different ways.”

Filament magazine is completely free of fashion, diets and celebrity gossip.

“This was particularly important to us because we also include photography of men based on the female gaze – research about what women find visually appealing. You don’t want to be thinking about personal appearance issues while you’re enjoying beautiful eye candy.”

Filament magazine is a quarterly, hard copy women’s magazine available anywhere in the world, only through ordering online at www.filamentmagazine.com/buy.aspx.
