Hey hey, today is the first shoot I’m doing with Annie and it felt oh liberating for someone that came from a conservative Asian background. As an art student I love looking at a painting or a photograph and studying the whole picture and come up with what I thought that certain piece of art is trying to tell me.

The artist could come up with a whole different idea of what he/she is trying to portray in the picture but when other people look at it, there would be different ideas or perspectives as we are all different, we would interpret things differently.

There is a photo that I found of a naked girl, her face distorted squatting spread eagle on a escalator moving upwards. When I look at it, I tried looking at it at different perspectives for example, a chauvinist might look at the picture and think that the naked female body and the escalator signifies that the only way a women could move up the ladder and make something of herself is by using her body.

However, a feminist would look at the women as liberating herself from the norm, a women with limited inhibition and no one to hold her back could do a lot. There is no obstacle or what others might think of her doesn’t affect her in any way on the way to achieve her goals.

From my perspective, the delicate nude body tells us how vulnerable and organic we are, and the metallic escalator signifies a harsh progress, human beings are moving to.
